Speed cameras & the Alcester Rd

I noticed there was another fatality at the Overserly Green junction the other day..Truly dreadful...It got me thinking about speed cameras around here..There seem to be literally thousands of the bloody things!..Well I'm all for anything that actually saves lives/stops accidents but I really wonder about the motive of the cameras around here...

Take the Alcester Rd..The accidents always seem to be at the Stag Hill and the Oversely Green turn off..In fact the stretch leading down to the Shell Roundabout is like the wild west with most drivers apparently thinking it is ok to come onto your side of the Rd when over taking in their latest rep mobile...Where are the cameras situated?..nowhere near these places of course....

Come on Warwickshire accident partnership (a name dreamt by a committee if there was ever one)...How about asking the locals where these wretched things should go?

I live in Stratford Upon Avon and in fact like living here as it happens..It's a strange old place with a definate cyclical cycle to it..We are starting to get into the tourist season with lots of our nice Japanese and American friends looking in awe at some of our quaint old streets..And standing still on the pavement looking to the sky ..and blocking absolutely anybody from passing..

Still if they spend some money and keep some of our locals who work in the tourist industry in food and clothes then thats got to be a good thing..

I just wish they wouldn't get in my way when I'm trying to get to a particular shop before it shuts!!

Welcome to the new Blog about life in Stratford Upon Avon

I don't know what has really made me do this ..but one of my favourite Blogs ..Stratford Upon Avon "A Town goes Down" has recently (yesterday) disappeared into the ether along with its author "Lawn Greengrass"..Hey Lawn if you are reading this you did a sterling job and your blog will be much missed..

Anyway for those of you that don't know..Stratford Upon Avon is a (growing) town in the Midlands in the UK where allegedly William Shakespeare was born and lived for a while before heading down to London to top up his income..For this reason in the summer and for most of the year it is thronging with tourists of all nationalities who we are very happy to part with their money..Everything is Shakespeare in this town, whether a tourist centre, a hi fi shop or even the Bard ( as he is known around here) has his own carpet cleaning business named after him...

The locals are quite nice but unfortunately we are ruled by inept and in the main Little England councillors who have allowed our town to head off into a seemingly never ending decline over the last 15 years..Still more of that over the coming months
